Liverpool Host Everton -The Toffees
Liverpool hosted their neighbours and Merseyside rivals Everton in a crucial tie on Match Day 30 of the English Premier League. Their previous encounter at Goodison Park had ended in a pulsating 2-2 draw. A similar battle was expected, and so it happened.
Liverpool Hold Possession, But Everton is Quick On The Counter
Liverpool, as usual, held the majority of the possession, but Everton were quick on the counter, and it has to be said that Everton got stuck into Liverpool in the first half. The Reds were lucky to have escaped without a scar in that period.
Brilliant Bento
Bento was a liver wire for the Toffees with his pace being a constant irritant for the Liverpool defense. The Guinea-Bissau forward got one through, but the offside flag was up and then produced a brilliant run to only strike the goal-post. It was a great opportunity, but as luck would have it, the Toffees were denied.
Sensational Diogo Jota
The second half saw a more purposeful Liverpool making constant inroads, and ultimately the all-important goal came through a brilliant Diogo Jota effort in the 57th minute. He dribbled past a couple of defenders and struck with great precision beating Pickford all ends up. It was a sublime finish from a confident, cool, and composed Jota.
Liverpool Hold On
Liverpool then held on stoically for the rest of the game to earn vital 3 points and extend their lead to 12 points over second-placed Arsenal, thus further tightening their grip on the EPL crown.
Another Tough Merseyside Derby As Tarkowski Escapes A Red
The Merseyside Rivals again played out a tough game with narrow margins. It would have gone either way, but a bit of luck and better skills saw Liverpool through. Everton could have done better with their finishing, though they were lucky to be playing with 11 men after James Tarkowski escaped a certain red card for his crazy tackle on Alexis Mac Allister.
The Reds March On
Liverpool march on and need to remain extremely focussed for the final 8 games. With no other distractions whatsoever, the Reds appear in good stead to further fortify their bid for the title as they play Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
