Nottingham Forest Bring Down Manchester City

Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City

Nottingham Forest Prevail

As I had remarked on my post yesterday, Nottingham Forest fought tooth and nail, ran for every ball and hardly gave much space for Manchester City to manoeuvre. And in the end they prevailed, bringing down the defending Champions.

Manchester City Visit Tricky Trees

The City Ground Stadium in West Bridgford, home to Nottingham Forest, was buzzing with nervous energy as the Tricky Trees welcomed the defending Champions in a critical tie. The 30k fans in the stadium were singing in the stands, pushing their team to come out better than the visitors.

A Slugfest Of A Match But Nottingham Hold Fort

A Slugfest of a contest ensued and Nottingham, as they normally do, defended with aplomb. City though enjoyed possession, could not make much headway. Their much fancied strikers in Haaland, Doku and Foden virtually stifled for space. To be factual there was not much in the first half as both teams jostled to keep each other at bay.

Hudson-Odoi’s Day Out With A Super Goal

Callum Hudson-Odoi came close to scoring for Nottingham in the second half. His fine strike was brilliantly deflected by Ederson as the ball hit the wood work denying The Tricky Trees. However, Hudson-Odoi was not to be silenced. He pounced on a fine diagonal pass from Gibbs-White with acres of space and struck fiercely from a tight angle. Ederson could not stop the ball to his left . Hudson-Odoi had scored in the 83rd minute. Ederson who had made a fine save earlier, was found wanting this time.

Manchester City Fall Short

Nottingham Forest then defended stoically and denied Manchester City. Pep Guardiola made a few changes, bringing in De Bruyne and Omar Marmoush, but they too could not alter the eventual outcome.

Nottingham Forest Earn Their Victory

Nottingham earned their victory by a solitary goal over City after 1997, a wait of almost 28 years and further cemented their place in the top 4 with a Champions League reward waiting to be grabbed. For City, the loss puts them in 4th place with Chelsea breathing down their neck. A win for Chelsea tonight would put them above City.

With 10 games to go, a lot may still happen in the ever-engrossing English Premier League.
