A Falling Sporting

The departure of Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon to coach Manchester United has  benefitted neither. United still continue to struggle and Sporting Lisbon who were playing fluently under Amorim have been on the receiving end off-late. Last night was no different as German Club Borussia Dortmund hammered the hosts at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

Serhou Guirassy Breaks The Shackles For Dortmund

The first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs between Dortmund and Sporting was a one sided affair after a goalless first half. Serhou Guirassy opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 60th minute with a fine loopy header and then set up Pascal Groß who kneeed the ball into the Lisbon goal in an unorthodox finish. Dortmund were ahead 2-0.

Adeyemi Seals It

Karim Adeyemi completed the formalities in the 82nd minute with a neat clip past Rui Silva which buried the contest and  summed up Dortmund’s brilliant night.

A Listless Sporting Have A Mountain To Climb

Sporting were listless to say the least and threw away the home advantage. Getting back in the second leg in Germany would be a Herculean task for the Portuguese team and any further advancement in the Champions League looks in great jeopardy.

A great win for Niko Kovac’s men.
