Home Park Welcomes Liverpool
The Home Park in Plymouth welcomed the EPL leaders, UEFA Champions League Toppers and the EFL Carabao Cup Finalists, Liverpool for the 4th Round FA Cup clash between the home team Plymouth Argyle and the visitors, last evening.
Plymouth Fans Wary Of Liverpool
Liverpool riding high on a brilliant season so far were clear favourites and the Plymouth Fans were wanting to see a good performance from their home team and not an embarrassing capitulation. But the fans were in for a shock.
Liverpool Dominate…
As was expected Liverpool had major possession right thru the game (75%) and though the Reds were without their glittering stars ( having a deserved break after a brilliant EFL Cup semi-final ), they still were expected to dominate and score.
…But Plymouth Score
Plymouth barely had possession but had kept the Reds at bay resulting in a goalless first half. In the second half an unfortunate hand ball from Harvey Elliott resulted in a penalty which Hardie converted to give Plymouth the lead.
Conor Hazard Defies Liverpool
The game however belonged to Conor Hazard, the Northern Irish Plymouth Goalkeeper who defied Liverpool’s celebrated strikers to ensure a clean sheet. The Plymouth defence too played out magnificently and held up with some incredible stoic resistance.
A Great Win For Plymouth
In the end it was a great win for Plymouth as mighty Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup competition. The hosts had earlier counted for Brentford as well underlining their form and quality performances in the competition.
The loss would have hurt Liverpool and will surely put them on guard for the upcoming games in the Premier League.
