A Supercopa Epic
The King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah was packed to the rafters as two giant Clubs of Football Barcelona and Real Madrid squared up against each other in the final of the Supercopa de Espana last night. And what a night it turned out to be.
Jeddah Crowd Enthralled
On display was one of the finest exhibitions of football laced with great skill, talent, strategy and an incomparable zeal to outdo the other. The Jeddah crowd had their monies worth as they were treated to a remarkable spectacle.
Mbappe Draws First Blood
The brilliance of Kylian Mbappe came to the fore as he showcased an incredible run from the right flank, dribbled past a few and scored with pinpoint accuracy. With just 4 minutes on the clock, Real Madrid were ahead in the game.
Lamine Yamal Replies In Kind For Barcelona
Lamine Yamal, the brightest star on the football horizon equalised for Barcelona in the 22nd minute. The finish from Yamal was pure class as he wrong footed Courtois ( the great Real goalkeeper) with an exceptional left footer after dribbling through defenders in the box. The strike was like a cross court drop. The placement of the ball beat the goalkeeper completely. The Catalans were on level terms.
Barcelona Surge Forward As Madrid Defence Falters
Yamal’s goal was truly inspirational and Barcelona were bouyed no end. Lewandowski converted a penalty to make it 2-1 for Barcelona and before Real Madrid could understand what was going on, a long long cross was met by a galloping Raphina. The incredible Brazilian headed the ball into the goal with great power and accuracy. It was a tremendous goal and it happened so quickly that the Real Madrid defence was caught completely napping. Barcelona were 3-1 ahead.
Real Madrid In Trouble
At the stroke of half- time, a brilliant pass from Yamal to Raphina, who set up Balde for a fine finish. The Real defence was in tatters. The Catalans were 4-1 up at the break.
Barcelona Decimate Madrid Win Supercopa
Raphina added further misery just after half time scoring his second of the match to put the match beyond a hapless looking Real Madrid. A goal by Rodrygo later was a mere consolation in a heavy defeat for Real Madrid. Barcelona emerged victorious 5-2 in a sheer demolition of their age-old bitter rivals.
A Night To Remember
It was a night to remember for the Arabs. They celebrated Barcelona’s emphatic victory as the sands cooled down on a great evening.
