A Buzz At The King Power Stadium
There was a deafening buzz at the King Power Stadium as former EPL Champions Leicester City hosted West Ham on Match Day 14 of the EPL. The expectations were high as Ruud Van Nistlerooy was making his Debut as Leicester’s Manager. All eyes were on Nistlerooy after his controversial and unceremonious exit from Manchester United.
Ruud Van Nistlerooy Takes Over The Foxes
Leicester City had been struggling this season post their return to the Premier League, with just 2 victories in 13 games so far and 7 losses to go with it. Their last match was a 1-4 mauling at the hands of Brentford which eventually triggered the sacking of their Manager Ben Dawson and the appointment of Ruud Van Nistlerooy.
Nistlerooy’s Energy Rubs On
I have been a fan of Nistlerooy when the Dutch served Manchester United with distinction. His aggressive play, goal scoring abilities, his passion to win and loads of energy on the field had made United win many a battle. And as expected that same energy was visible.

Jamie Vardy Scores Early
The Foxes had gone quiet, rather silenced on their return to EPL and were struggling to find their feet. However last night it was refreshing to witness a purposeful Leicester City. Jamie Vardy, a veteran for the Foxes made a brilliant run and scored in the 2nd minute of the game. His attacking skills were reminiscent of Nistlerooy and the goal pleased the Manager no end.
West Ham Dominate Possession, But…
West Ham, probably still reeling under the 2-5 loss to Arsenal on Saturday were slow to start, but then got into the game and held 61% possession. However they missed a few chances and were once denied by the goal post. But as in Nistlerooy’s nature, Leicester continued to score.
…Nistlerooy’s Foxes Score
El Khannouss scored in the 61st minute and then Patson Daka made a fine run and ensured a cool finish to make it 3 for the Foxes in the 90th minute. Niclas Fullkrug got a consolation goal for West Ham in stoppage time. The score line read 3-1 in favour of the Foxes.
Foxes In Good Hands
It was a delightful win for Nistlerooy after a couple of weeks of pain and disenchantment. Though Leicester still need to improve a lot, I am confident that the Foxes are in good hands and should rise in the EPL table.
A Disappointing Night For Lopetegui
For West Ham, it was a disappointing night for their manager Lopetegui. A day of contrasting fortunes for the two Managers. With 15th on the table West Ham need to pull up a few wins to stay safe and away from the Relegation zone. Lopetegui unfortunately looks shaky and his future as West Ham Manager might be in doubt after this loss.
It indeed was Nistlerooy’s night in Leicester.
