Sarfaraz : The Debut Most Talked About

Sarfaraz Khan  debuted for India at Rajkot in the third test of the India-England  Test series, bringing an end to the agonising wait for  Sarfaraz. The Mumbai batsman had been piling on the runs in domestic cricket, with some amazing consistency. Former players, cricket commentators and the press too expressed their anguish at times, when Sarfaraz could not find a place in the Indian Team. The well deserved call-up eventually arrived and Sarfaraz was picked to play for India. The debut received massive media attention and coverage, hardly seen in recent times , motivating me too, to right a post today.

The Rumblings Begin

Once Sarfaraz got the nod ahead of the second Test in Vizag, the rumblings in social media and the press began. The batting prodigy from Mumbai with an average of 70, 14 hundreds and 11 fifties in 67 Ranji games, had got his due, became  lasting content as commentators, YouTubers, Journalists and the rest kept discussing Sarfaraz’s selection. However, Rajat Patidar was picked in the playing XI and Sarfaraz had to wait till he reached Rajkot for the 3rd Test.

A Teary Father

Indian bowling legend Anil Kumble handed over the India cap to Sarfaraz, watched by Naushad Khan and wife of Sarfaraz from the side lines. Naushad wept as he kissed the cap and  hugged his son in an extremely emotional moment on the ground. The years and years of hard labour and  pereseverance had finally paid off. These touching  moments were played over and over again on the internet and Naushad Khan for a moment had suddenly become more popular than his talented son. The sacrifices which he had made, the pain which he had endured in this long and arduous journey, became a huge talking point.

A Fine Debut

Sarfaraz came out to bat and played an innings of utter delight. There was nothing novice about him as he played with great flair. His balance and composure on the pitch was exemplary and his stroke making was a feast of sorts as Sarfaraz cantered to his Fifty on debut, giving more fodder to the internet which was virtually held sway by Sarfaraz. The cricket experts from across the world praised his performance no end, raking in the mega bytes, which was splurged by the media on Sarfaraz’s mega voyage onto his debut. In the second innings too Sarfaraz got another half century playing a supporting role to the brilliant innings of Yashasvi Jaiswal and stitched a massive partnership with the southpaw.

Sarfaraz’s debut literally dominated sports news on the net and social media, which is testimony to the ability of the cricketer and how deserving he has been  in getting his maiden India call-up. ( His younger brother Musheer too has been hogging the limelight with his remarkable performance in the U-19 World Cup )

How will Sarfaraz fare going forward is anybody’s guess, but for now he is basking in the glory of his debut…soak it up Sarfaraz !!
