A Living Legend
Whenever I write about Tennis, Novak Djokovic gets a mention, either directly or indirectly, such has been the great Serb’s dominance of the Sport. A living legend, Novak’s clout on the court is telling and no matter the challenger, Novak is a handful. You cannot miss him, be it a game or a blog.
An Unshakeable Edifice
The Year 2023 would be one of the most incredible years in Novak’s career. He is 36 and has left his generation of players way behind and the young brigade is just unable to take an inch from him. Be it skill, court coverage, fitness or stamina, Novak towers above the much younger players. He is like an unshakeable edifice, to be admired for his imperial achievements and be inspired by his exceptional work ethic and competitive brilliance.
Some Staggering Stats
Other than the loss to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon Final and to Jannik Sinner in the Davis Cup, Novak’s Statistics for the Year 2023 are staggering. Some of the highlights are as follows.
1. Played the Final in each of the year’s 4 Grand Slams. Winning 3 ( Australian, French and US Open ).
2. Stretched his tally to a mammoth 24 Grand Slam Titles.
3. Won his 7 th ATP Finals Title. The highest ever, beating Federer’s 6.
4. Extended his record to 36 Grand Slam Finals.
5. Surpassed Federer’s record of 46 Grand Slam semi-finals, by reaching his 47th.
6. Extended his record of 38 Masters Titles to 40.
The above figures look massive and simply unassailable, crowning a flawless, unblemished 2023.
The Hunger Is Not Dying Out
Novak Djokovic is looking hungry for more and does not appear to be slowing down in the near future. Come 2024, we might see Novak adding a few more layers to his already towering greatness behemoth. The likes of Alcaraz, Sinner and Medvedev will have to wait till Novak himself relinquishes the court and this is not happening soon.
