The Terminator
Arnold Schwarzenegger became one of the biggest action heroes of all time after the resounding success of the Terminator series and in particular Terminator 1 and Terminator 2. Both the films were not only hugely entertaining but technically were well ahead of their times. They made huge impressions on the cinegoers across the world. I was also spellbound by the films particularly Terminator 2 which I thought had pushed the boundaries of visual effects to absolutely captivating and enthralling levels. However it was all Arnold Schwarzenegger at that time, and I never was inquisitive enough to find out about the creator of these two Epics.
TERMINATOR – 2
The Truck Driver
It would be difficult to believe that a former Truck Driver and janitor, who used to pen down his ideas in his free time, would become a source of exceptional story telling intertwined with breathtaking visual effects. James Cameron it was, who got so inspired with Star Wars the Film in 1977, that he left his job as a truck driver and took to film making. Such was his passion for films that he left no opportunity to learn and as he progressed in the industry he had acquired some amazing knowledge which backed his extraordinary creative vision.
Finding his Feet with Aliens
His first success came with Aliens starring the award winning Sigourney Weaver and then it was the Terminator series. The idea of a belligerent rampaging robot under a human skin, came out of a dream, when James Cameron was severely down with fever and unwell. He crafted his vision at a scale which was huge and intimidating. With Arnold Schwarzenegger he also made True Lies and became one of the most exciting directors in Hollywood. However the big ones were yet to come.
Titanic
TITANIC
James Cameron wrote and directed, one of the greatest blockbusters of all times, Titanic in 1997. The film, a compelling visual treat mesmerised audiences with its riveting romance in the backdrop of a sinking gigantic ship. The film won accolades and awards and did mammoth business across the world. James Cameron had raised the bar and had ascended into a league of his own.

The creative urge in Cameron pushed him further as he wrote, directed and showcased another visual classic with Avatar in 2009. He created a new land Pandora and Na’vi the tribe inhabiting it. A tussle between the powers to be and the tribe was outrageously picturised as never seen before with a lovely story unfolding as it were. The film became a box office stunner with the producers running happily to the bank. The bar had again been raised by James Cameron.

Came 2022, James Cameron arrived with another money spinner. Avatar 2 – The Way of Water, another breathtaking film with exquisite art direction and unparalleled cinematography. The film has already broken several records and is another Epic from James Cameron’s stable, unquestionably making him the most bankable Director in Hollywood.
Lessons from the life of James Cameron
The post today however is not about James Cameron’s films and his exploits with innovation and creativity, it is more about the man himself. It intrigues me when I think about him. There is a lot to learn from this former Truck Driver. Anything is achievable if you have the will to do so. The canvas of your dreams may be infinite and yet gettable if only you believe in yourself and work hard at sharpening your skills. There is nothing like impossibility, if you honestly devote yourself to a seemingly unattainable cause.
