Harsh Realities
A truck driver working hard as hell to make two ends meet. His wife was cleaning homes to help out her husband. The silent tears of not being able to pay bills. Going hungry so that their two sons could eat. A little one room flat and a very difficult life. The eldest son not still big enough to understand the harsh realities, had already grown up and was aware of the pain his parents were undergoing. The long walks to get to the bus for school and the daily struggles to survive made him anxious. He wanted a better life for his parents and brother and he knew just one thing could do it. Football.
Football & Fanatical Focus
From the age of 8 till his teens, the kid worked hard as one possessed by his ambitions with a singular focus. Traveling long distances on buses or on foot, the pain notwithstanding, the boy left no stone unturned and at the age of 17 signed his first contract and left home, leaving behind his parents and brother. They all wept, but the boy had to leave. The contract was the start of a comfortable life for his family. The kid nicknamed Dibu after a freckle faced Television character in Argentina, had turned the wheel of fortune by his sheer hardwork and labour.
Mammoth Returns
Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez continued to rise with spectacular performances in England and then being declared the goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Copa America which gave Lionel Messi his first silverware for his country. The icing on the cake came with Emiliano’s exploits in the just concluded World Cup with Argentina emerging victorious after a gap of 36 years. The years of agony and toil had eventually given mammoth returns to Dibu. A truly inspirational journey.

Celebrations…Gone Just a bit too Far
It was time to Celebrate and why not. Emiliano Martinez received massive appreciation at his home town with thousands flocking to honour their Hero, one of their own. It was a just reward for some superlative work by the Glove Man. However with the adrenalin pumping post the victory against France, Emiliano has received criticism for mocking Kylian Mbappe and the French Football Association has lodged a written complaint against Emiliano. His Club Aston Villa might have a word with him too. It appears that the Celebrations just went a bit too far. Emiliano’s antics in mocking Mbappe ( holding a doll with Mbappe’s face ) do not go with spirit of the sport. However, it is also a fact that Emiliano was one of the first to console Mbappe on the field after the epic Final and that spirit of his should also not be forgotten. I am certain, this controversy will be sorted out sooner than later and Martinez will make peace with Mbappe and all those who have felt offended by his antics off the field. Fans are waiting to see the enigmatic Dibu back in action.
